BACKGROUND & SHOW DESCRIPTION
After
28 consecutive years of the "Know Your Heritage" quiz show
series on local television in Chicago, Central City Productions is
proud to announce the national syndication launch of it's "Know
Your Heritage: Black
College Quiz" show 4 part series to air during "Black
History Month" in February 2007. Know Your Heritage: Black
College Quiz is hosted by Mr. GregAlan
Williams
Purpose
and Objective
The
purpose of the "Know Your Heritage:
Black College Quiz" show series is to encourage the
appreciation of African-American Heritage by all people in an
entertaining quiz show format.
The quiz show series objective is to generate a high level of
excitement and enthusiasm by featuring HBCU College students from
around the country showcasing their knowledge and skills of
African-American history.
Our
objective is to produce a television program that will show people
of this country, young and old, African American's who have made
valuable contributions to the world in the areas of life that are
not typically glamorized like the world of entertainment on
television. We have a
vision that educating our children will open doors and break the
stereotypes that people have developed about the African American
race. In a
study done by Children Now, an advocacy group for children they
indicate "All kids agreed that it is important to see people of
their own race on TV. It
tells children that people of their race are important and that [the
children] can succeed and do [their] best."
Central
City Productions wants to show the people of this country African
American's making contributions to this world that they may have
never thought about or even thought possible.
We want to create a new paradigm that suggests that being
smart and knowledgeable is cool.
Central
City Productions believes that by educating people about all of the
different contributions African Americans have made to society will
help make our children better contributors to our country and the
world.
Central
City Productions is looking for partners who believe in a better
future for all children. Showcasing
students from HBCU's on television, making positive contributions to
this world, will suggest to viewers that they, too, can participate
in life at a level they may have never thought possible.

Black
History Month
The
month of February has emerged as the official period in which to
celebrate Black History. In
1915 Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded the association for the study of
Negro Life and History in Chicago.
The
Association launched Negro History Week in 1924.
With the increasing growth of Black racial pride in
the 1960's, Negro History Week was unanimously changed by the
association to Black History Week.
Because
of the growing importance of Black cultural pride as heritage, the
association in 1975 expanded the period in which to celebrate
"Black History Week" from one week to the entire month of
February. Black
History Month is thus a timely and most relevant period in which to
launch the "Know Your Heritage Black College Quiz Show"
series. |
